Description of the Splendour of the Sacrificial Enclosure

Yudhiṣṭhira said: “O son of Kuntī, he seems to be one who continually enjoys great happiness; yet I do not see anything blameworthy in the limbs or person of the terrible (warrior) Bībhatsu. If this matter is indeed something I should hear, then you ought to explain it to me—what is the cause for his undergoing hardship despite no visible fault?”
The verse frames a dharmic inquiry: suffering is not always explained by visible दोष (fault) in a person. Yudhiṣṭhira urges a deeper causal account—often implying karma, duty, or hidden conditions—rather than judging by outward appearance.
Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Arjuna (Kuntīnandana), noting that Arjuna appears blameless and even suited to happiness, yet seems to undergo hardship. He asks Arjuna to explain the reason for this apparent mismatch between virtue and suffering.
