Babhruvāhana’s Lament and Appeal for Expiation (प्रायश्चित्त-याचना)

ददर्श चापि दूरेडस्य मातरं शोककर्शिताम् । उलूप्या सह तिष्ठन्तीं ततो5पृच्छद् धनंजय:,उससे थोड़ी ही दूरपर बभ्रुवाहनकी शोकाकुल माता चित्रांगदा उलूपीके साथ खड़ी थी। अर्जुनने जब उसे देखा, तब बशभ्रुवाहनसे पूछा--
Transliteration
dadārśa cāpi dūre tasya mātaraṃ śokakarśitām | ulūpyā saha tiṣṭhantīṃ tato 'pṛcchad dhanaṃjayaḥ ||
Translation
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Arjuna also saw, a little way off, his mother—worn down by grief—standing together with Ulūpī. Seeing her there, Dhanaṃjaya (Arjuna) then questioned Babhruvāhana, seeking to understand the cause and meaning of the sorrow that had overtaken his family.
