Uttarā-vilāpaḥ and Kṛṣṇasya satya-vacanenābhi-mañyu-jasyābhijīvanam
Uttarā’s Lament and the Revival of Abhimanyu’s Son by Krishna’s Truth-Act
sāpi bāṣpakalāṃ vācaṃ nigṛhyāśrūṇi caiva ha, dṛṣṭvā govindam āyāntaṃ kṛpaṇaṃ paryadevayat |
Vaishampayana said: She too, restraining her voice that was breaking with tears and holding back her weeping, on seeing Govinda approaching, lamented piteously. Overcome with grief, she began to wail in distress as he came near.
The verse highlights a dharmic emotional discipline: even amid intense sorrow, one attempts to restrain speech and tears, yet grief naturally seeks expression. It also frames Krishna (Govinda) as a moral and devotional focal point—his presence evokes deep, reverent emotion rather than ordinary reaction.
An unnamed woman, overwhelmed with sorrow, sees Krishna approaching. She tries to control her tear-choked voice and weeping, but still breaks into piteous lamentation as he comes near.
