Seeing the sage turn back, King Āvikṣita, ruler of the earth, followed behind him with palms joined, seeking instruction from Saṁvarta. The scene underscores the ethic that true kingship is grounded in humility and the willingness to learn dharma from the wise, even by personally approaching them with reverence.
व्यास उवाच
A ruler should approach wisdom with humility: reverence (prāñjali) and personal effort to learn from the virtuous are presented as marks of dharmic kingship.
When the sage turns back, King Āvikṣita notices and follows him from behind with folded hands, intending to receive instruction from Saṁvarta.
