Adhyāya 51: Kṛṣṇa’s Leave-Taking and Departure for Dvārakā (द्वारकागमनानुमति)

Vāyudeva said: “In this world, all beings—both the moving and the unmoving—are the first to dissolve back into Prakṛti. After them, the effects produced by the five elements dissolve; and after those effect-forms (the manifest qualities), the five great elements themselves dissolve. Thus the entire aggregate of elements returns into Prakṛti.”

Educational Q&A

All manifested life and matter are impermanent and ultimately return to their source (Prakṛti). The verse outlines a graded dissolution: beings dissolve first, then the element-produced effects/qualities, and finally the five great elements themselves—encouraging detachment from transient forms.

Vāyudeva is instructing the listener on the metaphysical process of dissolution (pralaya), explaining how the visible world—living beings and elemental structures—withdraws step by step back into primordial nature.
