Vāyu said: “Having received his teacher’s permission, he should eat his food without disparaging it. Even when living on alms, he should accept that begged food as if it were a sacrificial offering (havis). He should remain in a fixed place, keep to a single seat, and go out for walking only at regulated times.”

Discipline rooted in humility and reverence: eat only with the teacher’s sanction, never disparage food, treat alms as sacred like an oblation, and maintain regulated, restrained habits of residence, sitting, and movement.
Vāyudeva is instructing on proper conduct (niyama) for a disciplined life—especially the etiquette of eating and restraint—framing everyday acts like accepting alms as spiritually significant and governed by the guru’s authority.
