Brahmā said: “The body is a constructed abode: its essence is intellect, its pillar is the mind, and it is bound together by the community of senses. It is a mass formed of the great elements, a dwelling-place and an enclosure.” In this teaching, the speaker frames embodied life as a structured but impermanent mechanism, urging discernment and restraint as the basis for righteous living.

The verse analyzes the body as a composite structure: intellect is its guiding essence, the mind is its main support, and the senses create bondage. Recognizing this helps one practice restraint and discrimination, foundational for dharma (especially for householders and brahmins).
A doctrinal discourse is underway in which Brahmā speaks, describing the nature of embodied existence. The teaching sets up an ethical-spiritual framework: understanding the body-mind-sense complex as constructed and binding prepares the listener for guidance on righteous conduct.
