Adhyāya 40: Brahmā on Mahān (The Great Principle) and the All-Pervading Puruṣa
mahāprabhāvaḥ puruṣaḥ sarvasya hṛdi niścitaḥ | aṇimā laghimā prāptir īśāno jyotir avyayaḥ ||
Vāyu-deva said: The Supreme Person, of immeasurable majesty, is firmly established in the heart of every being. The powers such as becoming minute (aṇimā), becoming light (laghimā), and reaching all things (prāpti) arise from Him. He is the sovereign Lord of all, self-luminous, and imperishable—thus the inner ruler who grounds spiritual discipline and ethical restraint in the awareness of the indwelling Self.
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse teaches that the Supreme Person dwells within the heart of all beings as the imperishable, self-luminous Lord; extraordinary yogic powers are secondary expressions dependent on Him, while the ethical focus is inner reverence, restraint, and God-centered understanding rather than fascination with siddhis.
Vāyudeva is speaking and instructing the listener about the nature of the indwelling Supreme Self—affirming divine immanence (present in every heart) and divine sovereignty, while contextualizing yogic attainments like aṇimā, laghimā, and prāpti as deriving from that Supreme reality.
