Vaiśampāyana said: When a thousand years had passed, Śarmiṣṭhā, the daughter of Vṛṣaparvan, having reached youth, noticed that her season (menstruation) had come; and she fell into anxious reflection. The moment signals the awakening of adulthood and the social-ethical pressures surrounding marriage, lineage, and duty in royal life.
