Tapovana-praveśaḥ — The King’s Entry into the Sacred Grove and Vision of the Āśrama
Vaiśampāyana uvāca: ity uktvā sa mahīṃ devo brahmā rājan visṛjya ca | ādi-deśa tadā sarvān vibudhān bhūta-kṛt svayam ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Having spoken thus, the god Brahmā—creator of beings—dismissed the Earth, O King, and then personally commanded all the gods: “To lighten the burden of the Earth, take birth separately in various regions through your own portions. There you must oppose the asuras and accomplish the intended purpose.”
The verse frames a dharmic principle of cosmic responsibility: when disorder burdens the world, divine powers act through delegated agency—gods taking partial incarnations—to restore balance by opposing destructive forces (asuras) and fulfilling a higher purpose.
After addressing Earth’s plight, Brahmā dismisses her and issues an instruction to all the gods: they should take birth in different places through their own portions to reduce Earth’s burden and to counter the asuras, thereby achieving the intended divine objective.
