Āstīka Stops the Sarpa-satra; Royal Closure and Protective Phalaśruti (आस्तीकः सर्पसत्रनिवर्तनम्)
एते चान्ये च बहवो ब्राह्मणा वेदपारगा: । सदस्याश्नाभवंस्तत्र सत्रे पारीक्षितस्य ह,इसी प्रकार पुत्र और शिष्योंसहित भगवान् वेदव्यास, उददालक, प्रमतक, श्वैतकेतु, पिंगल, असित, देवल, नारद, पर्वत, आत्रेय, कुण्ड, जठर, द्विजश्रेष्ठ कालघट, वात्स्य, जप और स्वाध्यायमें लगे रहनेवाले बूढ़े श्रुतश्रवा, कोहल, देवशर्मा, मौद्गल्य तथा समसौरभ-- ये और अन्य बहुत-से वेदविद्याके पारंगत ब्राह्मण जनमेजयके उस सर्पयज्ञमें सदस्य बने थे
ete cānye ca bahavo brāhmaṇā vedapāragāḥ | sadasyāś cābhavaṃs tatra satre pārīkṣitasya ha ||
Śaunaka said: “These and many other brāhmaṇas, fully accomplished in Vedic learning, served there as officiating members in the sacrificial session—indeed, in that rite connected with the descendant of Parīkṣit.” The verse underscores that the great ritual assembly was constituted by learned and disciplined Vedic authorities, implying that such public acts of dharma are to be conducted under the guidance of qualified sages.
