Jaratkāru’s Marital Compact and Departure

tato yaśaḥ pradīptaṃ te triṣu lokeṣu viśrutam niraṃśur iva gharmāśur antardhānam ito vrajet

Kāśyapa said: “Otherwise, the fame of yours—now blazing and renowned across the three worlds—will fade from this realm and vanish, like the sun’s heat when it is without rays.” The warning frames success as a dharmic responsibility: one’s earned renown is sustained by steadfast effort, and failure in one’s appointed undertaking causes even celebrated merit to disappear from public memory and moral standing.
