Śakra (Indra) said: “From today onward, let this mother of mine no longer be a slave. In accordance with what you all had stated, I have now fulfilled your instruction and carried out what was required of me.”

Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes ethical reciprocity and fidelity to one’s word: when a task is completed as agreed, the promised outcome—here, freedom from servitude—should be honored without delay.

Indra addresses the serpents and declares that, from that day, his mother is to be considered freed from slavery, because he has fulfilled the work they had required of him (in the surrounding episode, connected with bringing amṛta).
