Ādi-parva Adhyāya 3 — Janamejaya’s Rite, Dhaumya’s Parīkṣā, and Uttanka’s Kuṇḍala Quest
tasya taṁ putram abhigamya janamejayaḥ pārīkṣitaḥ paurohityāya vavre | parīkṣitakumāraḥ janamejayaḥ maharṣiśrutśravasaḥ samīpaṁ gatvā tasya putraṁ somaśravasaṁ purohitapade vavre ||
Approaching the sage’s son, King Janamejaya, the son of Parikshit, chose him to serve as his royal priest. Thus Janamejaya went to the great seer Shrutashravas and appointed his son Somashravas to the office of purohita—an act that underscores the king’s duty to seek learned, disciplined guidance for righteous governance and ritual propriety.
