Ādi-parva Adhyāya 3 — Janamejaya’s Rite, Dhaumya’s Parīkṣā, and Uttanka’s Kuṇḍala Quest
yatra sa kṣatriyaḥ pauṣyas tam upetyāsīnam apaśyad uttaṅkaḥ | sa uttaṅkas tam upetyāśīrbhir abhinandya uvāca |
Reaching the place where the Kṣatriya king Pauṣya resided, Uttaṅka saw him seated upon his throne. Approaching the king, Uttaṅka greeted him with blessings and respectful words, seeking to win his goodwill before speaking—an example of proper conduct in approaching authority and beginning a request with courtesy.
