Garuḍa’s Breach of the Amṛta-Guard and Boons with Viṣṇu; Encounter with Indra (Ādi-parva, Adhyāya 29)
bruvāṇam evaṃ garuḍaṃ brāhmaṇaḥ pratyabhāṣata | niṣādī mama bhāryeyaṃ nirgacchatu mayā saha ||
As Garuḍa spoke in this manner, the brāhmaṇa replied: “This Niṣāda woman is my wife. Let her depart together with me—only then can I go.” The statement underscores a moral insistence on marital responsibility and the refusal to accept personal safety or freedom at the cost of abandoning one’s spouse.
