Vaiśampāyana said: “O delight of the Kurus, I myself shall come to know that destined time; and by great austerity I shall also bestow it—even upon you. Vāsudeva too sought an everlasting bond of affection with Pārtha (Arjuna). And the lord of the gods, Indra, granted that boon to the wise Kṛṣṇa.” The passage highlights a moral ideal in which divine power is not sought for domination but for steadfast friendship and loyalty, presenting enduring affection as a worthy object of prayer and divine favor.

Educational Q&A

The verse elevates steadfast affection and loyal friendship as a legitimate spiritual aim: Kṛṣṇa seeks not power or conquest but an enduring bond with Arjuna, and this is portrayed as worthy of divine sanction.

Vaiśampāyana reports that Kṛṣṇa (Vāsudeva) asks Indra for a boon—perpetual affection with Pārtha (Arjuna)—and Indra grants it; alongside this, the speaker mentions knowing the destined time and bestowing something through great austerity.
