Stambhamitra said: “O Havyavāha (Fire), having created these three worlds, when the time of dissolution arrives you blaze up again and consume them. Therefore, O Agni, you are the source from which the whole universe is born, and you alone become again its final resting-place—its dissolution and end.”

Educational Q&A

Agni is praised as both the origin (prasūti) and the end/support (pratiṣṭhā) of the cosmos: the same divine principle that enables creation also brings about dissolution at the proper time.

The speaker, Stambhamitra, addresses Agni with a hymn-like statement, describing Fire’s cosmic role: after creating the three worlds, Agni becomes kindled at the time of pralaya and consumes them, thus functioning as both creator and destroyer.
