Arjuna’s Pilgrimage and the Maṇalūra Alliance
एकराज्यावेकगृहावेकशय्यासनाशनौ । तिलोत्तमायास्तौ हेतोरन्योन्यमभिजषध्नतु:,उनका एक ही राज्य था और एक ही घर। वे एक ही शय्यापर सोते, एक ही आसनपर बैठते और एक साथ ही भोजन करते थे। इस प्रकार आपसमें अटूट प्रेम होनेपर भी तिलोत्तमा अप्सराके लिये लड़कर उन्होंने एक-दूसरेको मार डाला
ekarājyāvekagṛhāvekśayyāsanāśanau | tilottamāyās tau hetor anyonyam abhijaṣadhnatuḥ ||
Nārada said: “They shared one kingdom and one household. They slept on the same bed, sat on the same seat, and ate together. Yet, despite such inseparable affection, for the sake of the apsaras Tilottamā they fell into mutual rivalry and killed one another.”
नारद उवाच
Even the closest bonds—shared home, food, and life—can be destroyed when desire and jealousy override self-control; unchecked passion turns affection into violence and leads to ruin.
Nārada describes two men who lived in complete unity, sharing kingdom and household, but upon becoming enamored of Tilottamā they turned against each other and ended up killing one another.
