Vidura said: “O Bhārata, recognizing their invincibility in battle, and also keeping in mind their prior claim—since their father formerly held the kingdom—treat them rightly. Acknowledge, in accordance with dharma, that they are the lawful heirs, and conduct yourself toward them with proper and honorable regard.”

Educational Q&A

Vidura urges rule by dharma: recognize lawful inheritance rights and act justly toward rightful heirs, rather than pursuing power through hostility or denial of legitimacy.

Vidura counsels the Kuru authority figure that the Pāṇḍavas should not be treated as enemies to be overcome; instead, their rightful claim—grounded in their father’s prior kingship—should be acknowledged and they should be treated honorably.
