drupadaḥ śvaśuro yeṣāṃ yeṣāṃ śyālāś ca pārṣatāḥ | dhṛṣṭadyumnamukhā vīrā bhrātaro drupadātmajāḥ ||

Vidura said: “Those for whom Drupada is father-in-law, and for whom the Pārṣatas are brothers-in-law—those heroic sons of Drupada led by Dhṛṣṭadyumna—such Pāṇḍavas are impossible to defeat on the battlefield, O Bhārata. Knowing this, and also keeping in mind that, since their father previously held the kingdom, they are in justice the rightful heirs, you should treat them with the best conduct.”

Educational Q&A

Vidura urges prudent, dharma-based statecraft: recognize the Pāṇḍavas’ strong alliances (especially with Drupada and the Pāñcālas) and acknowledge their legitimate claim as heirs; therefore, act with fairness and goodwill rather than hostility.

In counsel to the Kuru king/elder, Vidura highlights the Pāṇḍavas’ marital and military ties to Drupada’s house—warriors led by Dhṛṣṭadyumna—and warns that attempting to conquer them is futile; he recommends honorable treatment and recognition of their rightful succession.
