मन्त्रिणस्ते न च श्रेय: प्रपश्यन्ति विशेषत: । अथ ते हृदये राजन् विशेष: स्वेषु वर्तते । अन्तरस्थं विवृण्वाना: श्रेय: कुर्युर्न ते ध्रुवम्,भारत! इन्होंने जो सम्मति दी है, इसीको मैं आपके लिये परम कल्याणकारक मानता हूँ। महाराज! जैसे दुर्योधन आदि आपके पुत्र हैं, वैसे ही पाण्डव भी आपके पुत्र हैं--इसमें संशय नहीं है। इस बातको न जाननेवाले कुछ मन्त्री यदि आपको पाण्डवोंके अहितकी सलाह दें तो यह कहना पड़ेगा कि वे मन्त्रीलोग, आपका कल्याण किस बातमें है, यह विशेषरूपमें नहीं देख पा रहे हैं। राजन! यदि आपके ह्ृदयमें अपने पुत्रोंपर विशेष पक्षपात है तो आपके भीतरके छिपे हुए भावको बाहर सबके सामने प्रकट करनेवाले लोग निश्चय ही आपका भला नहीं कर सकते
mantriṇas te na ca śreyaḥ prapaśyanti viśeṣataḥ | atha te hṛdaye rājan viśeṣaḥ sveṣu vartate | antar-sthaṃ vivṛṇvānāḥ śreyaḥ kuryur na te dhruvam | bhārata |
Vidura said: “Your ministers do not clearly discern what is truly beneficial for you. And if, O King, there is a special partiality in your heart toward your own sons, then those who merely expose the hidden feelings within you before others will certainly not bring about your lasting good, O Bharata.”

A king’s welfare (śreyas) depends on clear-sighted counsel and inner impartiality. If the ruler is biased toward his own sons, advisers who simply echo or publicize that bias cannot secure his enduring good; true counsel must guide him toward fairness and dharma.
Vidura is admonishing Dhṛtarāṣṭra about the quality of counsel he is receiving and about Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s own inner partiality toward his sons. He warns that such bias distorts judgment and prevents ministers from promoting the king’s true welfare.
