धिगकुर्वस्तदा भीष्म॑ धृतराष्ट्रं च कौरवम् | कर्मणातिनृशंसेन पुरोचनकृतेन वै,पुरोचनके किये हुए अत्यन्त क्रूरतापूर्ण कर्मका स्मरण हो आनेसे उस समय सभी नरेश कुरुवंशी धृतराष्ट्र तथा भीष्मको धिक्कारने लगे
dhig akurvans tadā bhīṣma dhṛtarāṣṭraṃ ca kauravam | karmaṇā tinṛśaṃsena purocanakṛtena vai |
Vaiśampāyana said: Recalling the exceedingly cruel deed carried out by Purocana, the assembled kings at that time began to denounce Bhīṣma and also Dhṛtarāṣṭra of the Kuru line, crying “Shame!”—for their complicity and failure to restrain such ruthless wrongdoing.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even revered elders and rulers are subject to moral judgment when they permit or fail to prevent cruelty; dharma demands active restraint of adharma, not silent acquiescence.
As the atrocity associated with Purocana is remembered, the gathered kings openly censure Bhīṣma and Dhṛtarāṣṭra, holding them responsible as Kuru authorities for allowing such a ruthless act to occur.
