खाण्डवप्रस्थप्रवेशः तथा इन्द्रप्रस्थनिर्माणवर्णनम् | Entry into Khāṇḍavaprastha and Description of Indraprastha’s Founding
(एतच्छुत्वा तु वचनं विदुरस्य नराधिप: । आकार च्छादनार्थ तु दिष्टया दिष्टयेति चाब्रवीत् ।। विदुरका यह कथन सुनकर राजा धृतराष्ट्रने अपनी बदली हुई आकृतिको छिपानेके लिये कहा--'अहोभाग्य! अहोभाग्य!! धृतराष्ट उवाच एवं विदुर भद्रं ते यदि जीवन्ति पाण्डवा: । साध्वाचारा तथा कुन्ती सम्बन्धो द्रुपदेन च ।। अन्ववाये वसोर्जात: प्रकृष्टे मान्यके कुले । व्रतविद्यातपोवृद्धः पार्थिवानां धुरन्धर: ।। पुत्राश्नास्य तथा पौत्रा: सर्वे सुचरितव्रता: । तेषां सम्बन्धिनश्लान्ये बहव: सुमहाबला: ।।) धृतराष्ट्र (फिर) बोले--विदुर! यदि ऐसी बात है, यदि (वास्तवमें) पाण्डव जीवित हैं, तो बड़े आनन्दकी बात है, तुम्हारा कल्याण हो। अवश्य ही कुन्ती बड़ी साध्वी हैं। ट्रुपदके साथ जो सम्बन्ध हुआ है, वह हमारे लिये अत्यन्त स्पृहणीय है। विदुर! राजा द्रुपद वसुके श्रेष्ठ और सम्माननीय कुलमें उत्पन्न हुए हैं। व्रत, विद्या और तप--तीनोंमें वे बढ़े-चढ़े हैं। राजाओंमें तो वे अग्रगण्य हैं ही। उनके सभी पुत्र और पौत्र भी उत्तम व्रतका पालन करनेवाले हैं। ट्रपदके अन्य बहुत-से सम्बन्धी भी अत्यन्त बलवान हैं। यथैव पाण्डो: पुत्रास्तु तथैवाभ्यधिका मम । यथा चाभ्यधिका बुद्धिर्मम तान् प्रति तच्छूणु,विदुर! युधिष्ठिर आदि जैसे पाण्डुके पुत्र हैं, वैसे ही या उससे भी अधिक मेरे हैं। उनके प्रति मेरे मनमें अधिक अपनापनका भाव क्यों है?, यह बताता हूँ; सुनो
etac chrutvā tu vacanaṁ vidurasya narādhipaḥ | ākāra-cchādanārthaṁ tu diṣṭyā diṣṭyeti cābravīt ||
dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca |
evaṁ vidura bhadraṁ te yadi jīvanti pāṇḍavāḥ | sādhv-ācārā tathā kuntī sambandho drupadena ca ||
anvavāye vasor jātaḥ prakṛṣṭe mānyake kule | vrata-vidyā-tapo-vृद्धaḥ pārthivānāṁ dhurandharaḥ ||
putrāś cāsya tathā pautrāḥ sarve sucarita-vratāḥ | teṣāṁ sambandhinaś cānye bahavaḥ sumahā-balāḥ ||
Having heard Vidura’s words, the king (Dhṛtarāṣṭra), wishing to conceal the change in his expression, exclaimed, “Fortune! Fortune indeed!” Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “So, Vidura—blessings upon you—if the Pāṇḍavas are truly alive, it is a matter of great joy. Kuntī is surely a woman of noble conduct, and the alliance formed with Drupada is highly desirable for us. Drupada is born in the distinguished and honored lineage of Vasu; he excels in vows, learning, and austerity, and among kings he is a foremost pillar. His sons and grandsons all observe excellent disciplines, and many of his other relatives too are exceedingly mighty.”
