Educational Q&A

Major dharmic and political turning points do not remain private; they quickly become public knowledge through networks of information. The verse highlights the ethical weight of truthful reporting (āpta-carāḥ) and how rulers’ decisions are shaped by reliable intelligence.

After Draupadī’s marriage to the Pāṇḍavas, the event is reported to various kings through trusted spies. This sets the stage for reactions at court—especially strategic anxiety and counsel among rival factions.
