उच्चैःश्रवसः वर्णविपणः तथा नागशापः

Uccaiḥśravas Color-Wager and the Nāga Curse

ऊचुश्न कूर्मराजानमकूपारे सुरासुरा: । अधिष्ठानं गिरेरस्य भवान्‌ भवितुमहति,तब देवताओं और असुरोंने (समुद्रकी बात स्वीकार करके) समुद्रतलमें स्थित कच्छपराजसे कहा--“भगवन्‌! आप इस मन्दराचलके आधार बनिये'

ūcuḥ śrī-kūrma-rājānam akūpāre surāsurāḥ | adhiṣṭhānaṃ gireḥ asya bhavān bhavitum arhati ||

The gods and the asuras, having agreed to the undertaking in the ocean, addressed the royal Tortoise in the boundless waters: “O Lord, you are worthy to become the supporting base for this mountain.” The verse highlights cooperative resolve for a great task and the ethical recognition of fitness (arhatā) for responsibility.
