Vaiśampāyana said: O bull among the Bharatas (Janamejaya), hearing those words spoken by the Gandharva at that time, Arjuna—filled with intense devotion—shone forth like the full moon. The narrative underscores how reverent receptivity to worthy counsel and sacred discourse refines a hero’s inner disposition, making devotion itself a visible radiance.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical power of bhakti (devoted reverence) and attentive listening: when one receives noble or sacred speech with sincerity, inner virtue becomes outwardly evident—symbolized by Arjuna’s moonlike radiance.
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration to King Janamejaya, Arjuna hears the Gandharva’s statement; moved by deep devotion, he appears especially radiant, marking a moment of heightened spiritual and emotional intensity within the episode.
