पराशरस्य राक्षससत्रनिवृत्तिः | Paraśara’s Rakṣasa-Satra and Its Cessation

The Gandharva pleads: “Be gracious. I am wholly under your power—accept me, for I am devoted to you, O noble lady. O fair-hipped one, the moment I beheld you, Kāma (the god of desire) has been tormenting me intensely.” In context, this is an erotic supplication rather than a dharmic instruction: the speaker frames his desire as helpless subjection and seeks the woman’s consent and reciprocation, revealing how passion can press upon judgment and self-control.

Educational Q&A

The verse illustrates the overpowering force of kāma (desire) and how it can drive a person to plead submission and seek union; ethically, it invites reflection on self-mastery and the importance of the other person’s willing acceptance rather than coercion.

A Gandharva addresses a woman with romantic epithets, declaring himself under her sway and saying that since seeing her he has been intensely afflicted by Manmatha (Kāma), thereby urging her to accept him.
