Educational Q&A

Divine grace responds to sincere merit and devotion: when one’s conduct or austerity pleases the divine, the response is benevolent and ethically framed—“choose a boon” is offered with auspicious blessing, emphasizing responsible desire and the proper use of granted power.

Vyāsa narrates that Śaṅkara, satisfied with the maiden, speaks to her directly and invites her to ask for a boon, declaring himself a giver of boons and offering auspicious reassurance.
