Thus ends the one hundred and sixty-ninth chapter of the Caitraratha section within the Ādi Parva of the Śrī Mahābhārata, dealing with the journey to the land of Pañcāla. This closing colophon marks the completion of that narrative unit and signals a transition to what follows.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
This line is a colophon rather than a doctrinal verse: its function is to mark completion of a chapter and identify its subject (the journey to Pañcāla), emphasizing orderly transmission and preservation of the narrative.
The narrator’s colophon announces that the 169th chapter in the Caitraratha section of the Ādi Parva—focused on travel to the Pañcāla country—has concluded, preparing the reader for the next chapter/episode.
