tathā balavatā bhīmaḥ pāṇibhyāṃ bhṛśam āhataḥ | naivāvalokayāmāsa rākṣasaṃ bhukta eva saḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana said: Even when Bhīma—mighty as he was—was struck hard with both hands by the rākṣasa, he did not so much as look at the demon; he remained absorbed in eating. The scene underscores Bhīma’s unshaken composure and contempt for the threat, presenting fearlessness and self-mastery as a form of strength in the face of violence.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights inner steadiness: true strength is not merely physical power but the ability to remain unshaken and undistracted even when provoked or attacked.

A rākṣasa strikes Bhīma forcefully with both hands, yet Bhīma does not even turn to look at him and continues eating, signaling contempt for the threat and complete confidence.
