Adi Parva 135: The Miner’s Warning and Construction of the Escape Passage
ततो रड्जराड़णगतो द्रोणो वचनमत्रवीत् | निवार्य वादित्रगणं महामेघनिभस्वनम्,तत्पश्चात् द्रोणाचार्यने महान् मेघोंके समान कोलाहल करनेवाले बाजोंको बंद कराकर रंगभूमिमें उपस्थित हो यह बात कही--
tato raṅgaraṅgam gato droṇo vacanam abravīt | nivārya vāditragaṇaṃ mahāmeghanibhasvanam, tatpaścāt droṇācāryeṇa mahān megha iva samāna-kolāhalaṃ kurvadbhir vādyaistad bandhayitvā raṅgabhūmim upasthitaḥ san idaṃ vacanam uktaḥ ||
Then Droṇa entered the arena and spoke. First he had the troupe of instruments—whose sound was like a great thundercloud—silenced. After the loud, cloud-like clamor of the music had been stopped at Droṇācārya’s command, he, standing in the arena, addressed the assembly. The moment underscores disciplined order: public spectacle is brought under restraint so that instruction and judgment may proceed with clarity and propriety.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Authority in a public setting is shown through restraint and order: before instruction or judgment, noise and spectacle are subordinated to clarity, discipline, and proper procedure.
Droṇa arrives in the arena and prepares to speak; he first has the thunderous music stopped, then addresses those assembled, signaling a transition from performance to formal instruction or announcement.
