Adi Parva 135: The Miner’s Warning and Construction of the Escape Passage

एष कुन्तीसुत: श्रीमानेष मध्यमपाण्डव: । एष पुत्रो महेन्द्रस्य कुरूणामेष रक्षिता

Transliteration

eṣa kuntīsutaḥ śrīmān eṣa madhyamapāṇḍavaḥ | eṣa putro mahendrasya kurūṇām eṣa rakṣitā ||

Translation

Vaiśaṃpāyana said: “This is the illustrious son of Kuntī; this is the middle Pāṇḍava. This is the son of Mahendra (Indra)—the protector of the Kurus.” The verse identifies Arjuna by lineage and divine paternity, presenting him not merely as a warrior but as a divinely empowered guardian whose duty is the protection of the Kuru realm in accordance with kṣatriya-dharma.
