Educational Q&A

The verse highlights ethical virtues of companionship: valuing a helpful, affectionate friend and acknowledging support with gratitude; it presents long-term cohabitation in an āśrama as a setting where such virtues are cultivated.

Vaiśaṃpāyana narrates that, in that place (the āśrama/gurukula context), he had a dear and helpful friend; after meeting and joining him, he stayed for a long time in the hermitage.
