आस्तीक-उपाख्यान-प्रस्तावः | Introduction to the Āstīka Narrative
एवं दारक्रियाहेतो: प्रयतिष्ये पितामहा: । अनेन विधिना शश्रृन्न करिष्येडहमन्यथा
evaṁ dārakriyāhetoḥ prayatiṣye pitāmahāḥ | anena vidhinā śaśṛnna kariṣye'ham anyathā
“Thus, for the sake of performing the rites connected with marriage, I shall strive, O grandsires. I will carry it out in this very manner and not otherwise.”
शौनक उवाच
The verse emphasizes steadfast adherence to prescribed dharma (vidhi) in performing socially and ethically significant rites—here, marriage-related duties—undertaken with resolve and without deviation.
Śaunaka speaks of his determination to undertake efforts connected with marriage rites, addressing revered elders/forefathers, and declares he will perform the act strictly according to the proper procedure, not in any other way.
