Mantras

Mantra 1

Unto that god Savitar, the Impeller, in his twofold station, of seerly purpose, I sing: the true-inspirer, treasure-housed, toward him I set my dear intent.

Mantra 2

Upright is his prompting; his light hath flashed forth in the act of instigation. The golden-handed, of good resolve, in grace hath measured out the heaven.

Mantra 3

For thou, O god, didst impel for the first Father loftiness for him, wide room for him. So now for us, O Savitar, day after day impel hither desirable boons—abundance of cattle.

Mantra 4

House-dwelling Savitar, the god to be chosen, bestowing treasure, skill, and life-spans for the Fathers—may he drink the Soma, may he be gladdened in the wished-for offering: even the circling course moves on in his ordinance.

Frequently Asked Questions

To obtain Savitar’s auspicious impulsion so the worshipper’s intention becomes effective and prosperity arrives steadily—especially desirable goods and abundance of cattle.

It cites Savitar’s primeval gift of exaltation and spacious protection as a precedent, implying that present prosperity is a lawful continuation of that same divine ordinance.

The text mentions Soma, but the hymn can be used devotionally with cleanliness, water, and a clear intention; a small offering (ghee or a simple libation) is optional in domestic practice.
