Sukta 8
प्रजापतिश्चरति गर्भे अन्तरदृश्यमानो बहुधा वि जायते । अर्धेन विश्वं भुवनं जजान यदस्यार्धं कतमः स केतुः
prajā́patiś carati gárbhe antár-dṛ́śyamāno bahudhā́ ví jā́yate | ardhéna víśvaṃ bhúvanaṃ jajā́na yád asyā́rdhaṃ katamáḥ sá ketúḥ ||
Prajāpati moveth in the womb; seen only within, he is born abroad in many a form. With but a half he hath begotten all this world of being: what, then, is that other half of him, and what the sign thereof?
Rishi: Traditionally attributed within AV 10.8 to a brahmodya-style seer (often treated as anonymous/collective Atharvanic speculation rather than a single named ṛṣi).
Devata: Prajāpati (cosmic creator; also the hidden principle within the garbha).
Chandas: Triṣṭubh-like cadence (speculative hymns often vary; pada-length suggests triṣṭubh tendencies).
