Brahmavidya Upanishad — Verse 55

अयने द्वे च विषुवे सदा पश्यति मार्गवित् । कृत्वायामं पुरा वत्स रेचपूरककुम्भकान् ॥ पूर्वं चोभयमुच्चार्य अर्चयेत्तु यथाक्रमम् । नमस्कारेण योगेन मुद्रयारभ्य चार्चयेत् ॥ सूर्यस्य ग्रहणं वत्स प्रत्यक्षयजनं स्मृतम् । ज्ञानात्सायुज्यमेवोक्तं तोये तोयं यथा तथा ॥५५–५७॥

अयने द्वे च विषुवे सदा पश्यति मार्ग-वित् । कृत्वा आयामम् पुरा वत्स रेच-पूरक-कुम्भकान् । पूर्वम् च उभयम् उच्चार्य अर्चयेत् तु यथा-क्रमम् । नमस्कारेण योगेन मुद्रा-या आरभ्य च अर्चयेत् । सूर्यस्य ग्रहणम् वत्स प्रत्यक्ष-यजनम् स्मृतम् । ज्ञानात् सायुज्यम् एव उक्तम् तोये तोयम् यथा तथा ।

ayane dve ca viṣuve sadā paśyati mārgavit | kṛtvāyāmaṃ purā vatsa recapūrakakumbhakān || pūrvaṃ cobhayam uccārya arcayet tu yathākramam | namaskāreṇa yogena mudrayārabhya cārcayet || sūryasya grahaṇaṃ vatsa pratyakṣayajanaṃ smṛtam | jñānāt sāyujyam evoktaṃ toye toyaṃ yathā tathā ||55–57||

Sang pengetahu jalan senantiasa memperhatikan dua ayana (titik balik matahari) dan dua viṣuva (ekuinoks). Setelah terlebih dahulu melakukan āyāma (pengendalian), wahai anak terkasih, ia menempuh recaka, pūraka, dan kumbhaka—hembusan, tarikan, dan penahanan napas. Mula-mula, setelah melafalkan kedua rumusan (mantra), hendaklah ia bersembahyang menurut urutan; dimulai dengan mudrā, ia memuja dengan salam yogis. ‘Penangkapan’ matahari (grahaṇa), wahai anak terkasih, dikenang sebagai yajña yang langsung. Dengan pengetahuan saja, persatuan (sāyujya) dinyatakan—seperti air menjadi satu dengan air.

The knower of the path always observes the two solstices and the equinox. Having first performed restraint (āyāma), O dear one, (he practices) exhalation, inhalation, and retention. First, having uttered both (formulas), he should worship in due order; beginning with the gesture (mudrā), he should worship with yogic salutation. The ‘seizing’ (grahaṇa, i.e., eclipse/appropriation) of the sun, O dear one, is remembered as the direct sacrifice. By knowledge alone union (sāyujya) is declared—like water (becoming one) with water.
