तार्यते च नदीं घोरां पूयशोणितवाहिनीम् । नदीं वैतरणीं नाम केशशैवलशाद्वलाम्

tāryate ca nadīṃ ghorāṃ pūyaśoṇitavāhinīm | nadīṃ vaitaraṇīṃ nāma keśaśaivalaśādvalām

Dan ia dipaksa menyeberangi sungai yang mengerikan, mengalirkan nanah dan darah—sungai bernama Vaitaraṇī—yang tepinya dipenuhi gumpalan rambut serta lumut dan rumput yang licin.
