Account of Sarasvatī’s Manifestation and the Humbling of the Devas

Suta Goswami (narrating the Shiva Purana account to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Liṅgodbhava
Sthala Purana: A sudden, unprecedented tejas manifests as a divine sign meant to humble the devas and redirect them from ego to recognition of the Supreme; it functions like a proto–liṅga/axis of revelation rather than a localized shrine-origin.
Significance: Darśana of the ‘unseen-before’ tejas symbolizes the fruit of humility: the devotee’s shift from deva-centered power to Śiva-centered truth.
Shakti Form: Kālī
Role: liberating
Cosmic Event: Epiphanic manifestation of tejas (divine theophany) that interrupts deva-normalcy and initiates a humility-test.
It highlights how Shiva’s supreme reality can suddenly reveal itself as tejas (divine radiance), overwhelming even the devas—pointing to the transcendence of Pati beyond ordinary perception and prompting humility and surrender.
The appearance of tejas in an unprecedented form aligns with Shaiva understanding that the formless (Nirguna) can be approached through a manifest sign (Saguna), such as jyoti and the Linga, which make the Supreme accessible for devotion and contemplation.
Meditate on Shiva as inner jyoti while repeating the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and support the practice with Tripundra (bhasma) and Rudraksha to steady devotion and inward focus.
