प्रायश्चित्तार्थमेवाधिलब्धसंज्ञा दिवौकसः । गम्यतां पुत्रका एवं पुत्रैरुक्ताश्च तेऽनघ
prāyaścittārthamevādhilabdhasaṃjñā divaukasaḥ | gamyatāṃ putrakā evaṃ putrairuktāśca te'nagha
“Makhluk surgawi ini memang ditetapkan khusus demi prāyaścitta (penebusan). Maka, wahai anak-anakku, lakukanlah demikian—berangkatlah.” Demikianlah, wahai yang tanpa noda, mereka dinasihati oleh putra-putra mereka.

It frames prāyaścitta (expiation) as a divinely sanctioned means of purification—removing pāśa (bondage of impurity and karma) so the soul becomes fit for Shiva’s grace and steadiness in dharma.
Expiation prepares the devotee to approach Saguna Shiva (including Linga worship) with inner and outer purity; in Shaiva practice, such readiness supports effective mantra-japa, pūjā, and receiving Shiva’s anugraha (grace).
The verse points generally to prāyaścitta—undertaking prescribed purification acts; in a Shaiva frame this commonly aligns with sincere confession, restraint, mantra-japa (e.g., pañcākṣarī), and disciplined worship performed with repentance and resolve.
