Shiva Form: Liṅgodbhava

Sthala Purana: The verse alludes to a ‘pārthiva’ (earthen) liṅga and related forms being established. This is a common Purāṇic/Āgamic practice: temporary liṅgas made for worship, vrata, or protective rites.

Significance: Affirms the efficacy of liṅga-upāsanā even with simple materials (earth etc.); the ‘true form’ (svarūpa) hints that the liṅga is not mere matter but a locus of Śiva’s presence.

FAQs

The verse highlights that even a hostile being, upon seeing the established liṅga and understanding its purpose and nature, is drawn into engagement with Shiva’s sacred presence—suggesting the transformative power of contact with Shiva’s worship-symbol.

By mentioning the “earthen and the like” established form, it points to saguna worship through the liṅga as an accessible support; recognizing its ‘purpose’ and ‘true form’ implies that saguna devotion can mature into insight into Shiva’s deeper reality.

It implicitly supports pārthiva-liṅga worship—making/placing an earthen liṅga and performing pūjā with mantra and reverence—an often-recommended Shaiva practice, especially emphasized in vrata contexts such as Mahāśivarātri.
