इन्द्रजित्–लक्ष्मणयोर् घोरः शरयुद्धः
Indrajit and Lakshmana’s Fierce Exchange of Arrows
सबभूवरणेघोरस्तयोर्बाणमयश्चयः ।।6.89.35।।अग्निभ्यामिवदीप्ताभ्यांसत्रेकुशमयश्चयः ।
sa babhūva raṇe ghoras tayor bāṇamayaś cayaḥ |
agnibhyām iva dīptābhyāṃs (t)re kuśamayaś cayaḥ || 6.89.35 ||
Di pertempuran itu, di antara keduanya terbentuk tumpukan dan hamparan anak panah yang mengerikan; tampak di mata laksana gundukan rumput kuśa di altar yajña, menyala oleh dua api yang berkobar.
In the battle the terrific arrows appeared to the eyes like kusa grass spread by the sacred fire.
The sacrificial imagery suggests that even warfare is judged against sacred order: dharma demands that force be framed by higher purpose and moral restraint, not by hatred.
The volley of arrows becomes so thick that it forms a terrifying ‘mass’ in the field of vision, compared to ritual kuśa illuminated by fire.
