Hanumān–Sītā Dialogue and Identity Verification
रोदनादतिनिश्श्वासाद्भूमिसंस्पर्शनादपि।।।।न त्वां देवीमहं मन्ये राज्ञ स्सर्वज्ञावधारणात्।
rodanād atiniśśvāsād bhūmi-saṃsparśanād api | na tvāṃ devīm ahaṃ manye rājñaḥ sarvajña-avadhāraṇāt ||
Dari tangismu, dari helaan napasmu yang berat, bahkan dari sentuhanmu pada tanah—serta dari tanda-tanda jelas kewibawaan seorang putri raja—wahai Devi, aku tidak menganggapmu sebagai seorang dewi.
"From your weeping, your sighing and your touching the earth (gods do not touch the earth) and your signs of sovereignty, I do not think you are a goddess (meaning otherwise she posessed divine grace).
Truthful discernment (satya with viveka): Hanuman carefully reasons from observable signs before speaking, avoiding flattery or superstition and aiming to reassure with clarity.
Hanuman begins verifying Sita’s identity and human condition, explaining why he does not regard her as a divine apparition.
Hanuman’s prudence and respectful honesty—he assesses evidence and speaks plainly to reduce fear and confusion.
