देव्युवाच । तपसा दुष्करेणाप्तः पतिर्वै शंकरो मया । समां श्यामलवर्णेति बहुशः प्रोक्तवान्रहः
devyuvāca | tapasā duṣkareṇāptaḥ patirvai śaṃkaro mayā | samāṃ śyāmalavarṇeti bahuśaḥ proktavānrahaḥ
Sang Dewi bersabda: “Dengan tapa yang berat dan sukar aku memperoleh Śaṅkara sebagai suamiku. Berkali-kali, dalam kesunyian, ia berkata kepadaku: ‘Wahai kekasih, engkau berwarna śyāmala (gelap).’”
