The Exposition of the Nityā-paṭala
देवतागुरुशिष्टान्यं पिबन्नासवमाशया । पातकी राजदंड्यश्च रिक्थोपासक एव ॥ २६ ॥
devatāguruśiṣṭānyaṃ pibannāsavamāśayā | pātakī rājadaṃḍyaśca rikthopāsaka eva || 26 ||
Orang yang meminum āsava dengan dalih hendak mempersembahkannya atas nama para dewa, guru, atau orang suci tetaplah pendosa; ia layak dihukum raja dan dianggap pemuja sisa-sisa yang najis.

It teaches that unethical means cannot be justified by a religious pretext: drinking intoxicants remains pāpa even if one claims it is for gods or the guru, and it results in both spiritual fault and worldly penalty.
Bhakti is grounded in purity and self-restraint; the verse implies that true devotion does not use impure substances or excuses, but aligns conduct (ācāra) with dharma.
It reflects dharma-śāstric discipline tied to ritual purity (śauca) and proper conduct—practical rules that govern what is acceptable in religious practice and what incurs social/legal sanction (rāja-daṇḍa).
