Adhyaya 17 — The Birth of Atri’s Three Sons: Soma, Dattatreya, and Durvasa
ऋतुस्नातां सुचार्वङ्गीं लोभनीयॊत्तमाकृतिम् ।
सकामो मनसा भेजे स मुनिस्तामनिन्दिताम् ॥
ṛtu-snātāṃ su-cārvaṅgīṃ lobhanīyottamākṛtim | sa-kāmo manasā bheje sa munis tāmaninditām ||
Melihatnya setelah mandi usai masa haidnya, dengan anggota tubuh yang elok dan wujud yang sangat memikat, sang resi—diliputi hasrat—mengarahkan pikirannya kepada perempuan yang tak bercela itu.

The verse normalizes kāma within dharma when situated in the proper context (ṛtu-kāla, marriage). It presents household life as a legitimate arena for fulfilling aims of life while maintaining respect for the spouse’s virtue.
Ākhyāna with an implicit vaṃśa trajectory: such scenes often precede births of significant figures, linking narrative to lineage development.
‘Manasā bheje’ highlights that conception narratives begin at the level of intention. In Purāṇic symbolism, purified intention in lawful union becomes the channel through which extraordinary beings may incarnate.
