dhūmacchāyā hābhujatāṃ netre cocchitapakṣmaṇī | sasvedā bhṛkuṭī cogrā lalāṭe samavartata ||
Matanya meredup seakan terselubung bayang-bayang asap; bulu matanya menegang.
The verse highlights the ethical tension between enduring insult with self-restraint and allowing righteous anger to arise when dignity and dharma are violated; inner turmoil can be visible, yet discipline governs action.
The narrator describes the woman’s (Draupadī’s) physical signs—dimmed eyes, bristling lashes, sweat, and a fierce frown—indicating intense distress and controlled fury amid the Kīcaka-related events in the Virāṭa court.
