Dhaumya’s Enumeration of Eastern Tīrthas
Prācī-diś Tīrtha-kathana
दण्डाख्यमभिगम्यैव गोसहस्रफलं लभेत् । तत्पश्चात् चम्पामें जाकर भागीरथीमें तर्पण करे और दण्ड नामक तीर्थमें जाकर सहस्र गोदानका फल प्राप्त करे
daṇḍākhyam abhigamyaiva go-sahasra-phalaṁ labhet | tatpaścāt campāṁ gatvā bhāgīrathyāṁ tarpaṇaṁ kuryāt, daṇḍa-nāmaka-tīrthe gatvā sahasra-go-dānasya phalaṁ prāpnoti |
Pulastya berkata: “Dengan sekadar mengunjungi tīrtha bernama Daṇḍa, seseorang memperoleh pahala setara dengan menghadiahkan seribu ekor sapi. Setelah itu, pergi ke Campā dan melakukan tarpaṇa di sungai Bhāgīrathī; lalu ketika mencapai Daṇḍa-tīrtha, ia meraih buah kebajikan seribu persembahan sapi.”
पुलस्त्य उवाच
The verse teaches that disciplined pilgrimage and sincere ritual acts (like tarpaṇa) can confer great merit comparable to major charitable gifts, emphasizing accessible dharmic practice, reverence, and inner intention.
Pulastya continues describing a tīrtha-yātrā sequence: the pilgrim goes to Campā, performs tarpaṇa in the Bhāgīrathī, and by visiting the Daṇḍa-tīrtha gains the merit said to equal donating a thousand cows.
