ब्राह्मणैश्व महाभागैवेंदवेदाड़पारगै: | नित्यमन्वास्यसे राजंस्तत्र का परिदेवना,राजन! महान् भाग्यशाली वेद-वेदांगोंके पारंगत विद्वान् ब्राह्मण सदा तुम्हारे साथ रहते हैं; फिर तुम्हारे लिये इस परिस्थितिमें शोककी क्या बात है?
brāhmaṇaiś ca mahābhāgair vedavedāṅgapāragaiḥ | nityam anvāsyase rājan tatra kā paridevanā, rājan ||
Bṛhadaśva berkata: “Wahai Raja, engkau senantiasa didampingi para Brahmana yang amat beruntung—para cendekia yang menguasai Weda beserta ilmu-ilmu penunjangnya. Dalam keadaan demikian, alasan apa yang ada bagimu untuk meratap, wahai Raja?”
बृहदश्च उवाच
A ruler should not collapse into grief when supported by wise, Veda-trained Brahmins; learned counsel and sacred knowledge are presented as stabilizing resources that help one face adversity with steadiness and dharmic clarity.
Bṛhadaśva addresses the king and consoles him, pointing out that he is continually accompanied by eminent Brahmin scholars proficient in the Vedas and Vedāṅgas; therefore, Bṛhadaśva questions why the king should lament in the present circumstances.
